Turpen begins her interview discussing her background, education, and early mentors. She describes coming to Omaha with her husband, her early lab and teaching career, and being recruited back to UNMC. She gives advice to students in the field and gives her opinion on the future of research on campus. Turpen reflects on her career in leadership, her mentors, and working with students. She discusses her retirement activities supporting ice skating in Omaha. Turpen concludes her interview detailing the research space assignment policy and the overall vision to use tobacco settlement money to grow research in Nebraska.
