He details inheriting his operating board member position from his mother, his position with the Hattie B. Munroe Foundation, and the relationship between the foundation and the Munroe-Meyer Institute (MMI), its history, and mission. He discusses his experiences with summer camp through the recreational therapy program. McWhorter discusses the foundation’s challenges including funding, community relations, and school district relations. He reflects on his mentor, the new MMI building, and stepping down from being board president. McWhorter concludes his interview reflecting on his legacy, his successes, and his mother’s opinion of his career and the growth of MMI.
