Schumaker begins her interview by describing her early upbringing in rural Nebraska and her university experience. She discusses the early field of medical technology and the technological changes that spurred her to continue her education at UNMC. She details her other advanced degrees and how she continued to focus on health. Schumaker discusses the creation of the College of Public Health, the dual degree programs with UNL and UNO, and online programs within the College of Public Health itself. She describes her work with the Center for Rural Health and the Education Council. Schumaker reflects on important skills during her career, significant mentors she had, and awards she received. She concludes her interview discussing her retirement activities and the Graduate Studies program.
