Parker begins her interview giving an overview of her career and background. She describes her educational path to UNMC through Creighton University’s post baccalaureate program. She describes her first impressions of Nebraska and medical school as well as her social life and female support during school. Parker discusses her student experience as a Black woman, her opinion of the influence of the Office of Minority Affairs on campus, receiving sorority support and hostility from fellow students. She details starting her career in rural family medicine in Mississippi and the decision to later move to Georgia. Parker describes the limited opportunities available to her as a student, especially in research. She details her later career focus on partnerships with Historical Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and the field of medicine and the importance of Black women in the clinical research field. Parker concludes her interview discussing her research with African Americans and Alzheimer’s disease and the awareness of clinical research brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
