Dr. Truhlsen begins his interview with a discussion of his background, childhood, and his early experience in school, where he was accepted into the University of Nebraska Lincoln, and later the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He also talks about his experience meeting and working with Warren Buffett, and the role Buffett played in helping him secure an early education. He finishes the interview with his thoughts on the Truhlsen Eye Institute, and some stories about his time as an ophthalmologist.

description: Stanley M. Truhlsen, M.D., is nationally recognized in the field of ophthalmology. He was born November 13, 1920, and is a native of Herman, Nebraska. Dr. Truhlsen graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1941 and received his M.D. from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine in 1944. In 1951, he joined the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s (UNMC) department of ophthalmology, where he served as interim chair of the department from 1989-90. He retired in 1993. Dr. Truhlsen’s generosity established the Truhlsen Eye Research Laboratories in the Durham Research Center, as well the Truhlsen Eye Institute.
